Veterans Legal Services is pleased to announce that William B. Asher, a retired partner at Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP in Boston, was recently elected to its board of directors.
Prior to Choate, Asher spent more than 30 years at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault LLP, including as managing partner. At both Testa and Choate, Asher represented technology and life sciences companies as well as entrepreneurs, venture capital investors, and investment banks. He has extensive experience in organizational governance and will lead VLS’s corporate governance board committee.
Asher first became involved with VLS in 2018, when Social Venture Partners Boston selected VLS to receive a three-year grant that included pro bono consulting services. A partner and board member at SVP Boston, Asher led the volunteer consulting team that worked with VLS on a range of projects, including the development of its new five-year strategic plan.
“Veterans Legal Services is an impactful organization that supports the well-being and distinctive civil legal needs of Massachusetts veterans who are facing adversity,” said Asher. “I’m enthusiastic about joining the board and helping the VLS leadership and team to achieve justice for men and women across the Commonwealth who have served our country.”
A resident of Weston, Mass., he also serves on the board of directors at MassVentures, the state’s technology venture capital fund. Asher holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and earned his bachelor’s degree from Harvard College. He has also served in the Massachusetts National Guard.
